---------------
A Man and His Maniac: The Bunkie Story is a 106-page paperpack dog memoir written by Charles Franklin Emery III. Published by Bunkiedog Press, it has a list price of $9.99. Each chapter starts with a poetic spot in time, followed by a narrative of life with Bunkie. For more information about the book, visit http://www.bunkiedog.com/.

Here's how the publisher describes the book: "A Man and His Maniac: The Bunkie Story – Second Edition, is a heartfelt memoir about Bunkie, the yellow Labrador Retriever Wonder dog. The memoir contains highlights of a 14 year chronological voyage through Bunkie’s and the authors life. It won’t take you 14 years to read it; but it’s got 14 years worth of love, laughs and tears buried within. The memoir is primarily a humor piece but has some serious components as well and deals with the positive aspects of pet ownership as well as the grief associated with losing a loved pet and family member.

Author Charles Franklin Emery III has a career in commercial nuclear power, in addition to being an avid fisherman and hunter. He resides with a Boston Terrier horde and his wife in Florida.

I found myself smiling and chuckling throughout the book, sometimes wondering if any animal could really be that crazy. And anyone who has lost a pet can relate to the final chapters of Bunkie's story. It was also interesting to see the author's underlying story throughout Bunky's life. It's true for so many of us - our pets remain constant even as our lives take drastic turns over the course of their lives.

And I love what Sherry, Charles' girlfriend (later to become wife), had to say: "There is more than one way into a man's heart; through his stomach or his dog." How true.

I'd recommend this book for pet lovers only, as this book contains some graphic details that might offend a non-pet lover. Talk about getting real... The author doesn't shy away from details such as dog poop and copulation. And you might find some of the humor irreverent. But I think the author's conclusion that Bunkie and God would get along just fine is absolutely a valid one!

Thanks to the author and Pump Up Your Book! for the review copy of this book.

I know I would love this book. My St. Barnard "Ally Oop" was 9 1/2 yrs old when he was killed by a lg truck 29 yrs ago. I still think about the time he ate 8 boxes of Girl Scout cookies (I was cookie mama)let our new litter of kittens walk all over him then gently shake them off when he got up. Watch visitors jumb back in their car or top of truck hood when they saw him, but he was just a lap dog and lover. Thanks for the opportunity to enter for this book.

Awwwww, that looks just like by "sweet" yellow lab when he was a puppy. In all of the research we did before we got him, I never found anything about how crazy they are (only what a nice family dog they are). Ours turned out to be another Marley. So I would love to read about Bunkie.
