Tessa Afshar was born in a nominally Muslim family in Iran and lived there for the first fourteen years of her life. She survived English boarding school for girls before moving to the United States permanently. Her conversion to Christianity in her mid-twenties changed the course of her life forever. Tessa holds an MDIV from Yale University where she served as co-Chair of the Evangelical Fellowship at the
Divinity School. She has spent the last twelve years in full and part-time Christian work and currently serves as the leader of Women’s and Prayer ministries at a church in Connecticut.
ABOUT THE BOOK

What I Liked: I always enjoy the opportunity to read biblical fiction and explore Bible stories in further depth, both through the author's interpretation and in revisiting the story in Scripture. And this was a new one for me; I don't believe I've read one on Rahab before. The author created a thoughtful and meaningful romance based on Rahab's story.
I enjoyed the author's take on the cultural integration challenges Rahab and her family must have faced: not mixing wool and cotton in clothing, the dialect differences, the "lower cough."
I loved most, though, the story's emphasis on love and relationship with God over form and function and rules, and the message of restoration that is the heart of the book. The birth of Boaz, who has his own fantastic story in the lineage of Christ, is a perfect ending.
What I Didn't Like: Nothing on this one... :)

Pearl in the Sand sounds like a wonderful book that shows God's power to transform lives that are yielded to Him and is at the top of my wish list.
