Winning Kids: Book-Themed Parties

Jane here...

'Tis the season for birthday parties, it seems.  We just went to one last week, and then at the park this weekend, it seemed there was a different party going on under each spot of shade!

Which reminded me of the great book-themed party ideas I saw over at Simple Kids.  They've got simple and FUN ideas for Where the Wild Things Are, as well as my favorite, The Very Hungry Caterpillar (also my 3yo daughter Esmé's favorite, who insists that all caterpillars should be shades of green with a red head).

Which, of course, in addition to reminding me of all the chomping I've done through the week, also reminded me of this totally fun birthday cake made by Melanie over at Cake Walk.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Cake
by Melanie

Very Hungry CaterpillarAs a child, I remember that one of my favorite books was The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. The caterpillar eats his way through plums, cherry pie, sausage, etc. during the week until he's plump and sick to his tummy. Then, he miraculously undergoes metamorphosis into a beautiful butterfly!

Last week, I was lucky enough to create a cake based on the book for Greyson's 1st birthday!

I just love this little caterpillar. He's so darn cute!

Melanie blogs over at Cake Walk, where you'll find lots of yummy and GORGEOUS sweet stuff.  This was originally posted there on April 1, 2010.

Love the idea of book themed parties...for kids of all ages! I've actually started seeing this type of theme work moving around to other venues too...social gatherings, weddings, etc...all getting the bookish touch. So much fun and room for play and timeless all at the same time. Thanks for sharing...and happy reading!
