Welcome To Our Wonderland

This week's spotlight falls on

If you're interested in helping your child love reading, then Welcome To Our Wonderland is a blog for you.  Here you'll get to follow along as Gidget and Froggi make some awesome book-related crafts, like these Footprint Tulips to go with Tia the Tulip Fairy.  And there are lots of family-friendly adult book reviews, too.

Let's meet the author of Welcome To Our Wonderland...

How would you describe your blog?

My blog is mainly about children's books (with some adult book reviews thrown in for good measure). I love to post a book and activity or sometimes a whole day's worth of lessons to extend the book adventure into a whole learning opportunity.

What is the mission of your blog?

Its mission is to show that you can do so much more with books after reading them to your kids. Books are just a stepping stone into a whole world of learning!

How long have you been blogging?

I have been blogging at blogger since April 2007. Wow - that long! It doesn't seem like that long.

Tell us a little about yourself:

I'm a stay at home mom to 2 girls:  9 and 4 years old. I taught in the Preschool setting for over 11 years. I taught in many different settings, from Montessori to Pre-k Art teacher. I loved it and love seeing my girls learn and explore and being there for the magical learning moments! So Welcome to Our Wonderland, and join our magical book adventures where books take you to magical places.

What are some of your favorite things?

Books:  For adult books: Unspeakable Journey, Beaded Hope and A Tree Grows In Brooklyn. Favorite children's books: Kitten's First Full Moon, The Inkheart series and all the NARNIAs.
Movies: Titanic, Alice In Wonderland (Tim Burton version), and anything with Johnny Depp or Leonardo DiCaprio
Music: This is all over the board.  I like Dance, Grunge, Christian, 80's and 90's - you should see my XM buttons - it is big variety! I like most types of music except Metal or that techno stuff.
Travel destinations:  I'd LOVE to go to Australia, Italy, Scotland, Wales, New Zealand, and Ireland (back to Ireland; I've been when I was real little).

I love to do art with my girls (they are more talented than me by a long shot, but I still have fun). I love to be outside: hiking, playing or just reading books. I love to find new vegetarian recipes. I'm the only vegetarian so I love challenging myself and making 1 dish 2 ways that we will all love!

Which genre most appeals to you, and why?

I love children's books and Christian fiction.  I've read Teen to Adult Fiction. My girls are all over the genre board. I think having and reading a variety to kids will help them find what they truly love and will find a place in the literature world to become their own bookworms. By making reading fun, you make it easier for kids to pick a book over a video game.

What advice do you have for other book bloggers?

This one is a hard one. Following your heart and blogging about the books you love is the only real advice I have. When you feel overwhelmed, take a break, and don't feel like you have to blog everyday! Build a great reader base and your readers will stay with you through thick and thin.

Number 1 rule for me is to keep blogging Fun and not ever feel it's a job!

Thanks, Gidget and Froggi's Mom, for joining us here at Winning Readings today!
