Overview

Juliana's father has deserted the family in search of mining riches, and her mother passes away from a heart attack. On her own, she finds a job at the local newspaper office of her 1890s Montana mining town.

Josh works hard raising a sheep herd and discovers some rare stones on his property that hold the promise of easy money.

The two meet and their paths intertwine. Juliana's distrust of miners comes into play, her father reappears, disaster strikes the mining town, and a love story takes place amongst the fascinating backdrop of a western mining culture.

The Author

"Maggie Brendan is a member of American Christian Writers and the American Fiction Writers Association, and is a contributor to http://www.bustlesandspurs.com/, a website for inspirational romance in the old West. You can read her blog at southernbellewriter.blogspot.com. She is the author of No Place for a Lady and lives in Georgia."

My Review

This was a fairly predictable romance that'll please any Christian romance fans. I enjoyed the historical aspects of the book - the mining culture and the introduction of Yogos, unique sapphires found only in Montana.

The Jewel of His Heart is the second book in the Heart of the West series, but I haven't read the first and found this to work fine as a stand-alone book. It's an easy read that kept me interested throughout with both the developing events and the main character development. I appreciated Juliana's independent and intelligent character. And of course, I appreciated the message that "God works in mysterious ways."

This book is available October 2009 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group. Thanks to Donna Hausler and the Baker Publishing Group for the review copy of this book.

I am a book worm & would love to read The Jewel of His Heart!

I would "gentle read it" too & then donate it to the local hospital for their Book cart!

When I was in the hospital for weeks at a time ~the book cart comming around made my day.
I now take all the books I have read & bring them to the hospital once a month.
