---------------
Goodness, we must all be down in the grumpy dumps these days, given the book titles coming across my desktop right now!

Seriously, this next book makes a great companion to the Lord, I Just Want to Be Happy book I reviewed the other day. It's full of 50 quick and easy pick-me-ups to try if you're in need of a little boost.

50 Ways to Feel Great Today was written by a team of minister David B. Biebel, DMin; doctor James E. Dill, MD; and nurse Bobbie Dill, RN. This 224-page paperback, released by Revell, A Division of Baker Publishing Group in December, has a list price of $12.99.

Here's how the publisher summarizes the book:

We all feel stressed, worried, or anxious at one time or another. Sometimes our circumstances, and even things that are out of our control, can wreak havoc on our spirits. Changing how we feel often begins with a small thing. Listening to a beautiful song. Enjoying a sunset. Making a happy memory. This unique book helps you discover how to beat stress, ward off worry, and banish the blues.

50 Ways to Feel Great Today offers medically and scientifically sound advice for giving a blah mood the boot. These time-tested ideas are simple and often low or no cost. While no "happy" pill exists, the activities in this book let you become your own helping hand.

Why not give one a try today? You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

This isn't a book that goes into the theory behind depression and all the reasons you should want to be happy. It's simply practical advice; the kind of thing you can grab off the shelf on a rainy day, randomly open up to a page, and try out that idea that day. If you want the scientific reasoning behind the idea, you get some of that, too. And each chapter starts with a quote - which I love for making the idea concise and memorable.

Another fun idea would be to take on a 50-day happiness challenge - try out one new thing each day for 50 days and gauge how your feelings have changed over that time...

An example of an idea - "create a healthy meal." If you're like me, walking into the kitchen and trying to cook a meal is a cause of depression! I seriously hate cooking, not because of the act of cooking, but the monotony of it, the cleanup afterwards, and nothing but a fat feeling as a result! This chapter of the book puts a new spin on it, and I tried it out, and actually enjoyed putting the meal together!

Other ideas include sleeping in, doing something spontaneous, giving, mentoring, reading a book, and a host more. It's not just the activity, but the purpose behind the activity, that drives the blues away.

Here's to happy times!

Thanks to Donna at Baker Publishing Group for the review copy of this book.
